An Update from Your NFIB/Wisconsin State Director

Date: July 15, 2015

The 2015-16 session of the Legislature is approaching the half way mark as lawmakers prepare for the fall floor period beginning on September 15th, followed by another beginning on October 20th, with the final floor period of the year scheduled for the first week of November. During these floor periods, legislation will be considered that changes the way regulations are adopted, workers compensation benefits are received, labor laws applied to your workforce and more issues that impact Wisconsin’s small and independent business.

Nearly five hundred bills have been introduced, have been referred to various committees, and many of those will likely be considered for passage later this fall. Lawmakers are busy reviewing each proposal, sometimes making changes with amendments giving each proposal a thorough discussion before deciding whether to recommend the bill for passage.

NFIB will be in the forefront fighting burdensome regulations, defeating costly mandates on our workforce, promoting meaningful changes to the workers compensation system, and leading the battle for a fairer, more predictable civil justice system.

I urge you to be actively involved in these crucial legislative struggles. Stay informed and recruit other small business owners to also participate in the legislative decision making process. There is more to be done, and we need every small business voice to win the battles in Madison.

Members with questions, comments, or concerns should contact Bill G. Smith, State Director, at the NFIB Office of State Public Policy, 608/255-6083 or [email protected].
