An Update from Your NFIB/Pennsylvania State Director

Date: April 14, 2015

If you have employees who are mad at the boss, did you know they can file a wage and hour complaint with the U.S. Department of Labor with just the push of a button? Yes, there’s an App for that!  The DOL Timesheet App  can send a time sheet to federal officials by cell phone instantaneously.  It is complaints like that which prompt the vast majority of government wage and hour audits of employers.  DOL also has a partnership with plaintiff’s lawyers and will refer an attorney to an employee who has a wage and hour issue.

To bring you up to date on the latest threats to your business when it comes to employees and the law, this NFIB Pa. newsletter features a special video of a recent presentation given in Pennsylvania by the NFIB Legal Center on that topic. It will help you avoid a lawsuit.

Speaking of employment issues, NFIB/PA is getting ready to testify at a hearing in the state capitol in Harrisburg on raising the minimum wage.   We asked three of our members from around Pennsylvania to weigh in on what that would do to their business. Hear what they have to say in our video.

And we want to give you a heads-up about a labor bill introduced in Pennsylvania that is getting momentum nationwide. It’s called “Ban the Box” and it would force small business owners to grant an initial interview to a qualified job candidate without asking on the application if they’ve ever been convicted of a felony.

It’s a tough time for business owners in today’s highly regulated, highly legislated environment, but NFIB is here to fight for you and your business, and to make sure you know the dangers.

Sincerely,

Kevin Shivers

Executive State Director NFIB/PA
