The minimum wage increase could have a big effect on a surprising amount of New York's small businesses.
NFIB/NY is currently fighting for your business against the drastic move by Governor Cuomo to increase the minimum wage for fast food workers outside of the legislative process. While the term “fast food” worker may seem innocuous to many of you, consider that the Governor’s wage board is defining “fast food” as an “establishment where you order food at a counter and pay before receiving your order”. To us, that has widespread implications. From pizza parlors, snack bars to food trucks and concession stands, this has the potential to be devastating for a plethora of small employers.
Additionally, the Governor has failed to recognize that many “fast food” restaurants are actually independent small businesses. With the advocates pushing to increase the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour and a decision expected in early summer, time is of the essence.
