Several anti-business proposals are defeated.
Dear Member,
We have hit the halfway mark in Oregon’s legislative session. Admittedly we have been playing defense on several fronts such as minimum wage, mandatory paid sick leave, flexible scheduling and a state-run retirement plan for the private sector.
We have had successes along the way in defeating bills that would have had a negative impact on our members such as HB 2006 regarding equal pay that created a new unlawful employment practice, HB 3377 regarding flexible schedule provisions and SB 19 that expanded employer liability to include certain employees and contractors and/or subcontractors in certain wage statutes.
NFIB, as the Voice of Small Business, exercised our voice in testimony during committee hearings, letters and calls to legislators, Key Vote Alerts, media coverage and working with a strong business coalition.
I thank you for your membership that makes our important work possible, and I thank you for your activism on important issues before the legislature. Working together we can make Oregon a business-friendly state.
Jan Meekcoms, NFIB/Oregon State Director
