Energy Project Vital For Small Businesses
WASHINGTON, D.C., May 23, 2013 — National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Senior VP of Federal Public Policy Susan Eckerly made the following statement on the passage of NFIB Key Vote H.R. 3, The Northern Route Approval Act:
“NFIB commends members of the House who voted to prevent the legal and regulatory onslaught that would likely have followed the president's final approval of the Keystone XL pipeline,” said Eckerly. “Completing the pipeline will directly help small businesses by creating thousands of jobs, reducing the impact of high energy prices and lowering the cost of fuels they utilize every day. According to NFIB’s Small Business Problems and Priorities, the cost of natural gas, propane, gasoline, diesel, or fuel oil ranked as the third-most important priority among NFIB’s members.
“H.R. 3 has addressed the potential for further regulatory and legal delays by ensuring the pipeline will move forward in compliance with current law, including the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act and judicial review. H.R. 3 is critical in getting the Keystone XL project over the finish line; without it, the project will face years of legal delays. NFIB urges President Obama to support small business and grant this project a presidential permit.”
