During the 2012 session of the Legislature, NFIB/Missouri helped pass:

  • Workers’ Compensation Reform: NFIB helped pass a bill that will keep employees from suing each other outside of the workers’ comp system. This has been a huge disruption to the workforce and we are please it has been fixed.
  • Regulatory Reform: The General Assembly just passed a bill that will require state agencies to review all of their rules and regulations every five years.  This practice should help weed out rules that are duplications, obsolete, or onerous.
  • Small Business Resource Portal: Under a new bill passed this year, the Small Business Technology and Development Centers will be creating an information portal to help small business owners or those wishing to start a new business. This “one stop shop” should be very helpful for Missouri small business.
  • Trespasser Language Helps Farmers and Small Business: Language was added to a bill this session that restates what has been common law for many years. That common law states that as a property owner you have no responsibility for the health and welfare of someone trespassing on your property.  This applies to farmers, all business and residential property owners.
