Young Entrepreneur Awards

Nominate Semifinalists for the 2009 Young Entrepreneur Awards Now

NFIB YEF

The 2009 Young Entrepreneur Awards program has progressed to where we need NFIB members to talk with, and in some cases meet with, high school seniors who have been selected as semi-finalists in the annual scholarship awards program. The requirement of talking with an actual business owner makes the Young Entrepreneur Awards more significant an experience than the typical scholarship program. The participation of NFIB members allows the experience to be special for the high school seniors involved.

If you would accept our invitation to participate, please contact Hank Kopcial at hank.kopcial@nfib.org. Your involvement will take only a few minutes of your time, but it will mean a great deal to the young people being considered for this year's awards.

The 2009 Young Entrepreneur Awards application process closed Dec. 15, 2008. We are no longer accepting scholarship applications. Semi-finalists will be notified of their selection in early March 2009.

The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation relies on the generous support of numerous small business leaders, corporate and foundation supporters. This year's major corporate sponsors are Visa, The McKelvey Foundation, El Pomar Foundation, Sam's Club and the Acton Foundation for Entrepreneurial Excellence.

The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award program is a educational scholarship for high school seniors pursuing higher education and their entrepreneurial dreams. The foundation hopes that by enabling young entrepreneurs in their educational endeavors, the nation's youth will understand the critical role that private enterprise and entrepreneurship play in the building of America.

Since 2003, the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation has awarded 1,954 scholarships to graduating high school seniors totaling $2,122,000.

In 2009, many of the scholarships awarded will increase in value: From $1,000 to $2,000 in many cases for non-renewable rewards, and many of the $1,000 annual awards will become renewable—increasing their total value to $4,000. Twenty-five of the awards given will be non-renewable $2,000 awards, made possibly by matching funds from the McKelvey Foundation.

The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award program is administered by International Scholarship and Tuition Services Inc. This assures complete impartiality in the selection of recipients and maintains a high level of professionalism.
